DAVE FLIPPO
Dave Flippo is one of Chicago’s most versatile musicians. His classical training and jazz/pop studies give him a wide-ranging repertoire that allows him to create the perfect program for any student. Dave also leads two jazz ensembles that are a part of Chicago’s unique jazz scene. Flippo’s compositional studies at the Eastman School of Music (MM-1982) and the University of Michigan (Doctorate - 1987) introduced him to musical styles and techniques from past and present and a multitude of ethnic music. His desire for blending in more of the jazz sound and improvisatory traditions led him to form Flippomusic in 1992. Aside from this ensemble, he also showcases his vocal jazz talents with the Dave Flippo Group with bassist Donn DeSanto. Dave has also been with Pong Unit-the nationally touring band for Poetry-Slam Creator Marc Smith. He performs the first Sunday of the month with the Pong quartet at the Green Mill in Uptown, Chicago.
