Scat: a Vocal aproach to improvisation
Scat: A Vocal Aproach to Improvisation ($20)
'Scat' is tailor-made for both vocalists and all instrumentalists. Every solo is recorded so you can learn to scat as you learned to speak: by listening, imitating and repeating. The solos and exercises are all written using the Bb blues form and include the scat soloist as well as rhythm-section accompaniment in different styles and tempos. You will establish melodic, rhythmic and scat vocabularies that you will use to create your own ideas spontaneously. You can choose to preview this book by clicking the title above.
Scat II ($14, booklet & CD)
'Scatt II' expands the concepts presented in Scat with an emphasis on ear training. You will learn to hear and sing intervals, triads and seventh chords, as well as circle of fifths, chromatic and diatonic chord progressions. Two tunes are explored through scat improvisation, as well as with rhythm-section only tracks for your own vocal and instrumental improvisation.
